Keeping up with the Palins

If Sarah Palin decides to run for president in 2012, she’ll have had more TV face time than anyone since Ronald Reagan.

Here’s the first look at her upcoming reality TV show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” set to debut in mid November (the week after the crucial mid-term elections, wink, wink) on TLC.

The show, described as a “docuseries,” follows Palin around Alaska, the state she used to govern, while she goes salmon fishing, camping and hiking along glaciers and talking to the people who live there.

The entire Palin clan — including (below from left) son Track, daughters Piper, Willow and Bristol, baby Trig and husband Todd — gets some camera time on the series created by “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett.

In one episode, the family watches a July 4th fireworks show — while it’s still light out (thanks to Alaska’s long summer days). Another episode features Palin and reality-show star Kate Gosselin, who took her eight kids up to the Alaska to meet the political superstar.

The local papers and Sarah’s own Twitter page have been tracking where the Palins have been filming each week — including picturesque Talkeetna (outside Anchorage), Mount McKinley and a “sliver” of the Denali glacier called Sweettooth.

This is one of the things that makes Sarah Palin so appealing to Americans of all stripes. She is not just one of the most astute politicians of our time, she is also one of us. An every day gal who enjoys living life to the fullest.

Sarah Palin’s Alaska promises to be a lot of fun, and a great look at the last frontier, that magnificent state Sarah calls home.

Politically, we always compare Sarah to the Great Ronald Reagan, but when it comes to the love of all things outdoors, Sarah is more Teddy Roosevelt. When you think about it, that’s a pretty good combination of traits: Reagan’s solid conservatism and Roosevelt’s love of the land.
