As you know, Sarah Palin will be going to India this weekend to give the keynote address at the India Today Conclave. The title of her speech is “My Vision of America.”
From Wednesday’s India Today:
There is tremendous interest in political and media circles in America over Sarah Palin’s visit to India.
The former vice-presidential nominee of the Republican Party and Governor of Alaska from 2006-09 will exclusively attend the 10th India Today Conclave on March 18 & 19, 2011. She is the featured Keynote Speaker at the closing Dinner Gala of the Conclave on March 19, where she will share her vision of America.
“I’m very excited to visit India. Americans have a great respect for the world’s largest democracy,” Governor Palin told India Today Conclave Team. “India and the United States are partners in trade and business affairs, and working together our two nations can build a more peaceful and prosperous world.”
Sarah Heath Palin made history in December 2006 when she was sworn in as the first female governor of Alaska. As governor, she championed major ethics reform, invested more than $5 billion in state savings, committed to forward fund education, protected Alaska’s natural resources, and reformed Alaska’s oil production valuation system. In a major milestone in the state’s history, Governor Palin spearheaded plans to develop the 1,715-mile natural gas pipeline to bring Alaska’s rich North Slope natural gas to market, a project that had been stalled for over 30 years.
Governor Palin served as chair of the nation’s Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and co-chair of the National Governors Association’s Natural Resources Committee. Prior to her election as governor, she served as chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and had served as her city’s Mayor.
As is well known, in August 2008 Senator John McCain tapped Governor Palin to serve as his vice-presidential running mate in his presidential campaign, making her the first woman to run on the Republican Party’s presidential ticket.
Governor Palin epitomizes the theme of the 10th India Today Conclave: ‘The Changing Balance of Power‘. A working mother of five, as a mayor and governor she emphatically broke through the gender-ceiling in Alaska. In the process she cleaned up political corruption and championed reform to allow the private sector to grow.
Her nomination as a vice-presidential candidate was no less remarkable, breaching as it did the overwhelmingly male bastion of the Republican Party and bringing the increasingly compelling political influence of ‘middle America’ to the elections.
Governor Palin is currently a contributor for FOX News and recently hosted the documentary series Sarah Palin’s Alaska on TLC. She is the author of The New York Times best-selling books, Going Rogue: An American Life (November 2009) and America by Heart (November 2010). She was named to TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People of the World” list.
Governor Palin received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications-Journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. She has been married to Todd Palin for 22 years, and she joins him in his commercial fishing business in Bristol Bay. Todd worked for many years in the North Slope oil fields, and he is a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world’s longest snowmachine race. Mr Palin will accompany Governor Palin to India.
Other speakers at the India Today Conclave include Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Egyptian opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei. Previous speakers include Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela.
