My Thoughts On Sarah Palin And What’s Next

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

~ Sarah Palin

By Gary P Jackson

Matt Drudge said it best: Wednesday was a bad day for America.

Yesterday afternoon word came that Sarah Palin, on the Mark Levin Show, announced she wasn’t running for President.

Obviously that was a shock to her supporters. My inbox started filling up, and kept filing up throughout the night and into the wee hours of the morning. That’s one of the reasons why this is coming so late on a Thursday afternoon.

Though many of us were in shock at first, that quickly turned into support for Sarah’s decision, and whatever she has planned next.

I would be lying if I said the disappointment didn’t run deep among us all, we support Sarah and the ideas she represents for a reason, but our mission is greater than any one person.

In her interviews with Mark Levin and then Greta, Sarah has vowed to bring the fight to those who would endanger Liberty and Freedom, and to continue to take on the permanent political class. She mentioned corruption and cronyism as things she is particularly looking to target. The cronyism that exists in Washington, many statehouses, and city councils is killing our nation.

As I heard her speak, and talk about what must be done, and who we should elect to do it, all I could think of was “It’s YOU Sarah, you are the one that meets that criteria!” The reason myself and so many others have supported her so strongly is because, knowing her record, and the rest of the field’s, we honestly felt she was the only one with the proven skills to do what must be done. She’s the only one of the bunch who has done it before, and done it well.

Looking back, there was a bunch of mixed signals of late, and reports are Sarah’s own staff knew nothing until the last moment. Stacy reminded me of something Sarah said while talking to Greta. Sarah said her decision came down to family and that she received a “personal confirmation today” [Wednesday] regarding what to do. I have no idea what that means, and we may never know. I don’t want to speculate what that may mean either. In due time we may know.

Here’s what I know for sure. I’ve followed Sarah’s career since early 2007, first as a “fan,” if you will, then as a strong supporter. Over that time she’s done a couple things that had me, and many others shaking our heads. Thing is, she’s always made the right move, and what [admittedly] looked like certain disaster to me and others, turned out to be a pretty smart move. It will take a while to know and understand if this move will fall into that category or not.

All I know is I have learned to trust her. She says she intends to remain engaged and lead the fight, I have to trust she’s got a plan. And if she has a plan, based on her past record, that plan will be successful.

The left and the GOP Establishment™ are already trying to write her off, marginalize her. I don’t see that working any better for them now, than it has in the past.

Here’s what Sarah has accomplished in just a few short years:

Sarah Palin has inspired millions who have never been politically active to get involved. Many have joined the Tea Party, others have become bloggers as well. The Tea Party is larger than any one person, but Sarah has certainly been it’s leading voice. The voice of the people.

Sarah has also led the national conversation. She’s one of the very few who has never been afraid to take the fight straight to Obama and the left. She’s never been impressed with him, not afraid to go after him. Now that Obama has become a proven failure, everyone is going after him, but she had the courage of her convictions to do it when others did not.

Something else Sarah has done that is a great service to us all, is she has exposed people for who they really are.

We’ve seen politicians, reporters, and bloggers who many thought were “OK“, be exposed for the dirt-bags they truly are.

Sarah just being Sarah has exposed many “conservatives” for the phonies they are. Same goes for the so-called conservative “thought leaders” who I don’t even have to mention by name.

Sarah has forever changed how we look at conservatives and conservatism. Changed it for the better, I might add.

Something else, by exposing the dirt-bags and hate mongers, Sarah also showed us some in the media that have turned out to be honest, straight up guys. People who we may have never trusted because of the media outlets they work for. We are better off for that as well. We now know who we can and can’t trust, and know there is no one media outlet that has the monopoly on honest reporters or low-lifes.

Sarah Palin has said she will continue the fight, and I will stand with her and anyone else who wants to fight this fight. Immediately after her announcement, she released a new video [see below] that says she’s not going anywhere. Knowing how she has no problem going after the bad guys in either party, she could be quite dangerous to the Ruling Class.

We are in the fight for the very survival of our nation. Now is not the time to sit back and be sad Sarah won’t be our next President. [I truly believe had she run, she would have won big, and our nation would have been better for it.]

Now is the time to move forward. Again, I trust that whatever Sarah has up her sleeve is important and will bring results.

We must choose a new president though, and frankly, the field that is now set isn’t all that inspiring. You’ve got a collection of lifelong members of the permanent political class, corrupt crony capitalists, people who are well beyond their “sell-by” date, and candidates with questionable résumés. From this list we have to find someone who can inspire us, and someone who is capable of doing the job that must be done.

At this point, I don’t see anyone I can support. I DO know several that I cannot and will not support under any circumstances, including the two candidates from Texas. The others, well, it’s up to them. I’m keeping an open mind, and if someone emerges that we can get behind, I’m all in.

That said, I’m NOT an “anybody but Obama” sort of guy. Yes, Obama and his entire party must be defeated and defeated soundly, but it matters who we put in his place. Electing a career politician who will be nothing more than more of the same will be as big of a disaster as allowing Obama to win re-election.

It will not be enough to simply slow down run-away government, we must stop it dead in it’s tracks, and head in the opposite direction at warp speed!

This is why vetting our candidates, and vetting them completely, will continue to be a priority. We MUST beat Barack Obama and we MUST take back the Senate. Only the best of the best will be able to accomplish this. We can’t let perfect be the enemy of good, but we can’t settle either. We must have a nominee that is free of corruption and has a solid character. Our candidates for the House and Senate must be the of good character and solid principles as well.

I started this blog, not as a “Sarah Palin blog” but as a Conservative blog. I consider myself a Reagan Conservative. Or better stated a Reagan/Palin Conservative. I believe in the values both of these leaders represent: Common sense, limited government, fiscal responsibility, and a strong national defense.

Nothing will change in what we do here. If anything, in the coming days and weeks, you will see a stronger, renewed effort to defeat those who would endanger Liberty and Freedom. It doesn’t matter if they are progressive-communists, or just corrupt self-serving politicians, we’ll expose them, fight them, and do our part to take them down. Our nation can’t survive any more of this nonsense at any level.

Besides providing information important to helping us choose our next President, we’ll cover politics in general, as always.

The fight will continue.

We still support Sarah Palin 100%, and will cover noteworthy events, but it’s more important now than ever before that we get this right. It’s important we know all we can about all of the presidential candidates as well as candidates for the House and Senate. We also must keep up with what is going on in the world around us.

Knowledge is power.

In case you missed it, you can listen to Mark Levin interview Sarah here.

Here’s her official statement:

October 5, 2011

Wasilla, Alaska

After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.

My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!

God bless America.

You’re the best, Gary – and you’ve hit just the RIGHT note here, too!! We need the time for reflection and discussion (PLPs in great demand at this time – Lol!!), as we pause and then resolve to move forward even more determined than before.

And if Sarah’s vision goes acc. to plan, she will be not only relevant, but ever HOT as well!! She will continue to be our natural – and national! – leader for years to come (please, God!). Her words of counsel & advice will be more sought after than that pompous windbag Kissinger!!

Keep up the great work,Gary – we’ll look forward to your own words of wisdom from time to time right here on “A Time for Choosing!”

Excellent post Gary. I view the primaries as more important than the General. I think Obama can and will be beaten unless someone really screws up. Like you said though, it’s of the upmost importance to replace him with the most conservative person. I’m very upset too as I think that person is Sarah, but I could live with Cain, Bachmann, Santorum, and maybe even Gingrich. We need to vet these guys like there’s no tomorrow and fight like hell to have one of them beat Romney and Perry.

If the unthinkable happens and either Romney or Perry gets nominated, then just like in 2008 we need to hold our noses and vote for them over Obama. I agree that it’d just be slowing down the march towards socialism, but it might make it so the nation can still be saved in 2016 where it may be a lost cause if Obama wins again…. ie: good chance with a conservative house and senate that even Romney would repeal Obamacare. Especially with the public demanding it and Sarah raising hell. Obviously with Obama in office that ain’t gonna happen. That’s why we always need to vote in the general against the socialists.

Until then on with the vetting and one hell of a primary fight!

And I didn’t mention RuPaul above as he is an absolute disgrace. No one angers me more than hearing him blame America first during the debates. He would get all of us killed.

Just heard on Levin that RuPaul said he even sympathizes with the Wall Street protestors. It just gets better and better with this clown!

RuPaul is by far the worst since you can’t have the most naive foreign policy. He is even against sanctioning Iran! Make Obama look strong on national security!!

I do wish Sarah would call RuPaul out but I don’t think he has a serious shot.

    • Gary P

Yeah RuPaul is the OTHER Texas candidate I will not support under any circumstance whatsoever. He’s nutty as hell.

A lot of us aren’t happy that Sarah isn’t running, but sometimes we don’t get what we want.

  4. I was really angry at Sarah yesterday. I saw her decision as dereliction of duty towards her command.

When I had heard that the family wasn’t behind the run, however, I understood. She made the only decision she could possibly make. The only thing I fault her for is not making this decision a month ago.

There will be some penance she will have to do, and she will need to really reach out the the 04P people who helped her over the past year. If she wants to start her career again, she’ll have to go to Arizona to do it; I think she’s done in Alaska.

But I understand, at long last. Though I can’t say it left a good taste in my mouth.

  5. Seattle

You have personally invested much in your research and writings, and are a huge supporter of Sarah and of what she stands for and believes in. Thank you for this post, and for your strong faith in her. I visit this site every day, and still will! If there is not a new post up, I read through archived posts and learn tons.
“Thing is, she’s always made the right move, and what [admittedly] looked like certain disaster to me and others, turned out to be a pretty smart move. It will take a while to know and understand if this move will fall into that category or not.

I am still in Game On mode. There is much to Restore.

  6. What’s next is the same as before. Just gonna have to take a different route.

  7. Jim Thompson

I am absolutely speechless, I really wanted her to run for the presidency. Well, I really will pray for This nation as well as for Sarah Palin And Her entire family. Believe me, one way or the other, in this life or the after life The liberals, The MSM, And the GOP Establishment all will have their comuppance on what they did to Sarah Palin And her Family. Finally, Mr. Jackson Sir, My Request is Please, please Keep this site up and running To support Governor Sarah Palin, The Palin Family And for this nation? It’s going to take gods sweet grace for all of this.

  8. Anne

One thing is still for sure:

Sarah Palin- She fights for America and she fights for me.

  9. Delta George

Im with you I will support Sarah, because i think the best it yet to come, I think Sarah has something in mind that we will soon hear about, so I m with her 100%. I like Your blog, I am new and will follow it.

  10. A tough nomination slog, an electoral campaign against a sitting president with a billion-dollar war chest and all the major media outlets firmly in his pocket: maybe Sarah was just being realistic. The Dems, the Repubs, & the media mavens all want a Romney/Obama contest. Looks like we are caught between Moloch & Mammon.

  11. Rick

Count me as one of the greatest admirers of Sarah Palin, but unlike most here, I’m rather relieved she didn’t run. The media has absolutely crucified her these past three years. If she’d have thrown declared her intention to run, then SHE would have become the issue, not the overwhelming problems this country needs to face. They’d have gone after her family as well. Who could withstand that for the next year? She has consistently been right on the issues and she’s been consistently right on the moves she’s made. Whoever she endorses will most likely beat Obama and she will have played no small part in that. For me, of course I’d like to see a solid conservative beat him. But I also believe in the wisdom of what William F. Buckley once said: You nominate the most conservative candidate THAT CAN WIN. I’m not sure yet at this point who that is. I’d hate to think it’s Romney, but if it is, I’ll be there supporting him 100%.

We need a Republican president, but we also need a Republican Senate to begin to dismantle the damage that 4 years of Obama and Pelosi and Red has created. Sarah Palin is not going away. I expect her to be all over the place supporting whoever the Republican nominee ends up being. Then, I’d like to see her as Secretary of the Interior or Energy when that man–or woman–wins next year.

    • Gary P

Sarah would have won the nomination, and the presidency in a walkover. There is no enthusiasm for anyone in the GOP field, and a ham sandwich will beat Obama in 2012. A ham sandwich on stale bread.

That said, I think if Obama can actually win re-election, it’ll be if we nominate Rick Perry or Willard Romney. Either of those two are bad enough we could lose.

Sarah was the one who was already uniting independents and pissed off democrats.

  12. jeaneeinabottle

I agree with you section9, after the punch in the gut, it hurt. Then came the heartache that our country didn’t have a chance, this morning I was pissed, now I’m like whatever. If she wants to help us fine, but come on, don’t pander to us it makes it worse. I can’t listen to her say “you don’t need a title” or “shackles” ever again. You do need a title in this moment in time, even if she lost she would of helped the debate like she has been. Look what a title has done for Obama, we were going to give her our power to help us fix this, she needed that title. But hey, if she doesn’t want it, that’s ok too but don’t think we will give our energy so easily over to her in the future. I hope she doesn’t take it personally but come on. We will keep fighting, if she wants to stand with us so be it. God bless you all, you all are good, decent people, take care.

  13. C.A. Bamford

Couldn’t have said it better, Gary.
Thanks to Gov. Palin, we have a strong network already in place to get the vetting process going for every seat in every state in the nation. With a strong leader and the millions of boots on the ground, there need be no more incompetents, crooks, and crony capitalists in our government, no more dirty secrets, voting irregularities, and no more excuses. We are going to know our local, state, and national candidates’ backgrounds, voting records, and assocations. So…it really is “Game On!”

  14. Keep up the good work Gary. I suspect where Palin’s going to be MOST visible is in pushing for Senate and House candidates that are Not for business as usual. I also expect to see her working to encourage others to step up locally. She might campaign for the nominee but I will Not be surprised if she doesn’t. The old GOP machine deserves little support, as I see it, as it appears to be basically a CRONY machine, and not much else nationally . YMMV. Thanks again. bigmike.

  15. The one thing (ok, more than one) but one thing that just sticks out, that changed, was Sarah going from, ” it’s not enough to just change up the uniform. We need to change the entire game plan. We need to make sure that we have the best and most qualified. The most vetted candidate to come forth and rise to the surface after this primary process.” To ABB (same plan, just different name-Anybody But Bush-to Anybody But Barry)

We know who is running. Well, I guess she does too, so she knows now the latter part isn’t going to be what we get, just changing the uniform. So sad.

  16. D. Ford

Great column Gary. I was waiting to see what your take would be and I think you’ve nailed it as usual. I have mixed feelings on the whole thing, along with apprehension over the field we have. Could Sarah possibly jump in as a VP and set herself up to shape our political landscape for 16 years instead of 8? Just food for thought.

  17. Tom Callow

Sarah Palin is not wrong about Crony Capitalism, or the need to have sudden and relentless reform, nor about Barack Obama.
She has faced enormous challenges in the last three years, and not only that, but her kids and her parents have also; example: how about we have major newspapers go over all of Barack’s emails for the last 30 months
They say she is thin-skinned to this day, but look at what she has had to put up with,
Do your parents have to sleep with guns at the ready due to threats on their very existence?
Does your kid get accosted by strangers in public yelling at them that your wife is a WHORE, the DEVIL, that she shoud DIE ?
Did you ever have a cabal of 400 so called news reporters and journalists come together to spin memes every day to drag your fine name and reputation down in the eyes of the world?
Thanks, JOURNOLIST By the way Ezra Klein was the head and Tucker Carlson wanted to be in it but was turned down.
Did you have so called advisors that come out with books that insinuate something about your sanity and have those advisors be welcomed with open arms by public media?
Did you ever have to sue a major publishing company for libel? or threaten to do so ?
And I only touched on the major points, there is a lot more of what the make believe media did to Palin than that.
Sarah Palin has a major role to play in this years election, no matter how the MEDIA has tried to speed it up, how the primary has been sorta stulted and shortened to the disadvantage of conservatives it is still 470 days away from inauguration day Jan 20 2013
I still plan on giving money to SarahPac to support conservatives and I still support Palin’s positions on a lot of policy.
There are only 2 casualties in new media so far for me. RedState and Dally Caller, Erick and Tucker can go to hell as far as I am concerned.
Sorry for the rant, and thanks for listening
    Tom Callow
