Despicable: Newt Goes on Miami Spanish Radio Claiming Romney Supports Castro

By Gary P Jackson

I’ve seen candidates pull some despicable stunts, but this is just beyond the pale. As everyone knows Miami has a huge Republican leaning Cuban population. Obviously they are no fans of the Castro brothers. Many escaped the island’s dictatorial grip to come to America.

I came across this story over the weekend. It’s a fine example of the sort of person Newt is. It’s right out Newt’s socialist comrades’ playbook of demonetization. Alinsky would be proud.

First the back story. In 2008, evidently trying to connect with the Cuban population in Miami, Romney used a phrase connected to Castro. Not his finest hour, and a shining example of why, if you don’t have a clue, just be yourself and hope for the best. Don’t try to “fit in” when you clearly don’t.

Now most of us would see this, make fun of Mitt Romney…. relentlessly…. and move on. Not Newt. Nope, he’s running ads, in Spanish, on radio stations that serve the Cuban market.

When Newt Gingrich stopped by WAQI-AM (710), better known as Radio Mambí, last Friday, he promised to soon be on the South Florida airwaves in English and Spanish.

He has followed through, at least in part, airing a Spanish-language ad on some of the most influential radio stations in Miami.

In the piece, a man’s voice (not Gingrich) calls Mitt Romney a “liberal” who is “anti-immigrant” and may have “fame” but not be up to the job of president. Perhaps most damning, the ad says, “Mitt Romney goes around using Castro phrases,” referring to the 2008 presidential campaign when Romney, campaigning in Miami, mistakenly associated a Fidel Castro slogan with a free Cuba.

Romney talked about Patria o muerte, venceremos — Fatherland or death, we shall overcome — a trademark phrase Castro used to close his speeches. Romney’s use of the phrase did not sit well with Cuban Americans, who, according to a Miami Herald report at the time, ”
winced.

The ad also refers to Miami Republicans Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and former Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, who have backed Romney but whom Gingrich served with in Congress.

[ …. ]

Here’s the text of the latter portion of the ad. The translation is ours.

Newt Gingrich is a candidate who has committed himself to the Hispanic people, a Republican in the style of Ronald Reagan with experience. Unlike Mitt Romney, who goes around using Castro phrases, Newt Gingrich fought against the regime alongside Ileana and Lincoln to approve the Helms-Burton law. He supported the creation of Radio and TV Martí and is in favor of prosecuting the Castro brothers for bringing down the Brothers to the Rescue planes. Newt Gingrich has given his word to the Hispanic community in writing and won’t let us down.

Now obviously, beside the lie that Romney supports Castro, Mitt is not “anti-immigrant” as Newt suggests. He does have a record of being tough on illegals.

Meanwhile, Newt is the biggest amnesty shill left in the race.

The Herald has this response from the Romney campaign:

UPDATE: Here’s a response from Romney campaign spokesman Alberto Martinez:

This ad is false and full of ridiculous claims. Mario Diaz-Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Lincoln Diaz-Balart all stand with Mitt Romney because he has laid out a clear vision for spreading democracy in our hemisphere. By attacking anyone who supports common-sense border security and immigration reforms as anti-immigrant,’ Newt Gingrich is once again reading from Barack Obama’s liberal talking points.”

Read more here.

Anyone who watched Monday night’s debate knows that Mitt Romney has a pretty strong anti-Castro stance. Regime change is something he supports.

Newt Gingrich has done some really rotten things in his life, but this ranks up there with some of the worst.

Politics is war, that’s for sure, but honorable men [and women] fight the battles using FACTS about the candidates and themselves. Newt is not an honorable man. He lies about his own record, and then lies about others as well.

Is this the sort of man we want leading our nation? I don’t think so.

  1. Talk about “despicable,” seems your attitude toward Gingrich has reached that point. If you are trying to convince your readers that even Obama would be better, sounds like a “true Palin conservative” (TIC) to me. Some where along the line, IMHO, you need to start telling “your followers” that they need to keep “some what” of an open mind to find a way to support the Republican candidate, whom ever it turns out to be.

I am not a positive vote for Newt, but I certainly see less desirable option, or at least as questionable. Sure hope you can get your act together and start promoting the Republican candidate, whom ever it turns out to be! With that, I am opting out of these “despicable” site.

    Thank you,

    • Gary P

So you think it’s OK to go on the radio and absolutely lie about another candidate?

Think it’s OK to cheat on your wives and claim you helped create Reagan’s economic plan, when it’s been proven Reagan barely know Newt existed?

Newt is a despicable human being. He’s by far the worst person to ever enter politics.

This has nothing to do with Sarah Palin. Nothing whatsoever.

It has everything to do with stopping an evil, evil man.

Don’t get all riled up Gary. You provided me with information that I had not been aware of previously. However, I will take the individual that is the lesser of two evils.

    • patricia cala

Oh, the lesser of the two evils, my choice for President, is Newt Gringrich.

    • Gary P

Not riled up. Just know that Newt is the worst of the worst. Seriously, no worse a person in politics in my lifetime.

      • patricia cala

Santorom young, and first time on the circut, vetted not. Yes, Santorom would be the ethical candidate, with experience, but … he will not be in this running. What is our choice; Obama, Romney, Gringrich? I feel pain for our future. I am not surprized that we were robed by the system. I see the homeless on the sidewalks, I hear of educators abusing the helpless. In the supermarket I just saw an adult male, the size of a football player, go to his belt and threaten a 2 year old crying little boy. I spoke to him and said, don’t do that. He said, he is my son and I will do what I want. WHY? My question is, can a president help our people?

      • Gary P

I wish we had an entire new cast of characters! A do over!!

I could vote for either Romney or Santorum if it came to that.

I have stated publicly many times I cannot and will not, under any circumstances, vote for Newt. If he’s the nominee, I’ll vote down ticket and leave the presidential space blank.

I have to live with myself.

Real candidates especially in this time talk about the issues that will fix America and none of these candidates do that~ America needs to be saved from the destruction that has been placed upon it and no one will find a cure in attacks on each other nor explanations of who they may be as a person~ I know all the issues and none of the candidates have addressed them~ THe issues is all I would talk about and exactly how to fix them no matter how much I ticked the left off~ I really really feel sorry for the American people~ And if I had my way I would take over the whole show and put most of them in FEMA camps~Chad

    Gary P,

you said ” … and claim you helped create Reagan’s economic plan, when it’s been proven Reagan barely know Newt existed? ”

Perhaps Jeffery Lord MIGHT be a knowledgeable voice in the matter of Newt’s input to Reagan’s wins.

  6. Hey Gary, It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by. I have been looking over Romney and Gingrich and their freinds and enemies extensively, and come to the conclusion that Mitt Romney has been custom-tailor -made to oppose Obama and lose. Newt is an asshole, but we’ll have to fight this war with the asshole we have, not the one we wish we had. JOKE.

    • Gary P

Seriously, Obama would win a 40 state landslide against Newt. The democrats would think it was Christmas every day, if they actually believed in that sort of thing. Newt is a disaster. All of his lies are just now coming to the surface. He’s finished. He will not be our nominee.

That said, Newt has more in common with Obama, ideologically, than anyone running. Newt is a Big Government Statist. He has spent his entire political career standing with the socialists when the chips were down.

I don’t care that much for Romney either, but he can beat Obama, and will. I wish we had better choices, but when Mitt becomes the nominee, we much unite behind him and throw Obama out. THEN we can spend the next four years watching Mitt like a hawk watches chickens.

  7. kieffer

If you can’t beat terrorists, join them!
Threatening to kill the leader of a nation, is not a campaign speech!
    How far have we sunk!
Pre-meditated murder is applauded at presidential campaigns?

    • Gary P

If Jack Kennedy hadn’t screwed the Cubans over at the Bay of Pigs we wouldn’t have to worry about Castro.

The Castro brothers are evil murderers themselves. Now they haven’t slaughtered their own people on the scale of Hitler and the Nazis, or Saddam Husein, who used weapons of mass destruction on the Kurds, but they have slaughtered a whole bunch of Cubans.

We need regime change in Cuba. We should have done it 50 years ago before evil got such a toe hold.

In the end, some people just need killing.

    Gary,

Since you trust Levin more you need to listen to what he says about Newt:

Like me, Levin’s first choice is Santorum. However Levin has said countless times that he would vote for Newt over Romney. Do you really think Levin would say that if Newt was a Marxist as you wrongly claim?

I agree with you that Newt’s pandering to illegals to attack Romney is pathetic. So is Romney and Christie falsely using the bogus ethics charges against Newt when he was Speaker. Which one of the ethics charges was true?? It’s all garbage that was put out there by socialists to try to discredit Newt, yet Romney is using it to play more dirty politics.

The mudslinging here goes both ways yet you’re only exposing Newt. Let’s not pretend that Romney is innocent. He actually started the dirty attacks on Newt in Iowa and hid behind his SuperPac.

    • Gary P

Newt is a lying liar who lies. A whole bunch of his lies are crashing down around him.

He claims to have been Reagan’s right hand man. Fact is he spent the entire time Reagan was in office standing with the socialists against him.

Newt lied about supporting Goldwater. Hell he’s even admitted that he lied to John King.

Newt will lie when the truth works better. He can’t be trusted on even the most mundane of issues.

Thankfully, America is learning. People who worked with the devious bastard are coming out of the woodwork. These are old stories that many of us already knew, which is why we’ve NEVER liked Newt. Now that the rest of the country is learning what we already knew. Newt will finally be over and done.

It’s a shame you didn’t put the effort you put into defending a disgusting loser like Newt, into rallying people around Rick Santorum. That is honorable work. Sticking up for Newt, not so much.

      • NHConservative0221

I voted for Santorum and wrote letters to the editor in support of him.

However, between Newt and Mittens, Newt is 100X better.

It’s a shame you throw out words like Marxist in regards to Newt and say ridicuous things like “he’s the worst guy to enter into politics”. That’s insane and has no factual basis. So according to you Newt is worse than Obama??

      • Gary P

Newt is the worst human being to EVER enter politics. EVER.

If you want to waste time on that amoral bastard, go ahead. No one is stopping you. But I simply won’t support evil. And YES Newt is evil, and worse than Obama.

  9. AJSTEELE

You may have to figure out what your going to do if Palin endorses Gingrich. Do you also think Michael Reagan, conservative son of the great Ronald Reagan, knows nothing of Newt? Yes, Reagan endorsed him.

    • Gary P

A few weeks ago Michael Reagan was supporting Mitt Romney and TRASHING Sarah Palin when she called Mitt out. Michael is a political hack. A bandwagon jumper. His opinion means nothing whatsoever. He has no credibility.

BTW, read my latest. Newt spent the great Renaldus Magnus’ entire presidency looking for ways to undermine him. Newt sided with his socialist fellow travelers many times against Reagan.
