For Those Who Are Whining About Sarah Palin Endorsing Senator Hatch: Liljenquist Says He’d Raise Taxes

By Gary P Jackson

A lot of fair weather Conservatives have trashed Sarah Palin because she has endorsed Senator Orrin Hatch over phony Tea Party Candidate Dan Liljenquist in the Utah Senate race.

As I wrote at the time, I think Sarah made her case quite well, and as the video below shows, her choice was a smart one:

Liljenquist has not won a thing yet, and he’s already talking about reaching across the aisle and helping democrats raise taxes! Yeah, he says they must be tied with spending cuts, but as Senator Hatch correctly notes, when asked, the democrats will raise taxes, but the spending will never stop.

We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Orrin Hatch understands this, Dan Liljenquist, just like the democrats, doesn’t seem to understand this, or the fact that raising taxes generally lowers revenues, rather than raising them.

As much as I’m in a “throw them all out on their asses” mood, Senator Hatch is showing why sometimes an old, experienced hand, is good to have around.

Dan Liljenquist is not the sort we need in Washington. We have enough of his type there now, and it’s why the country is in the sorry shape it’s in.

I have some issues with Orrin Hatch but the American Conservative Union gave him a 100% rating for 2011 and a 89.7% lifetime rating. That’s conservative enough for me.

I agree. I have many issues as well, but guess what, the guy running against him is a joke.

What’s the saying, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.

Sarah got it right when she concentrated on the Supreme Court, and Mark Levin spent a good portion of a recent show playing tapes of Hatch kicking Joe Biden’s ass when they tried to destroy Clarence Thomas. He was also one of the few who stood up for Robert Bork.

In the next 4 year, Romney, if he wins, may get to choose as many a s4 Justices. We’ll need someone like Orrin Hatch guiding him through.

Hatch is also good on fiscal issues.

    Gary,

I heard Levin say the same thing about Lilenquist the other day. That combined with how Hatch has fought for conservative justices is enough to make me support Hatch.

Also, you really think Romney could have the chance to select 4 Justices in the next 4 years? Really? Are some of them supposed to retire soon or are you speculating based on their age (I know Gator-Ginsberg is a dinosaur)!

Levin has been a long time supporter of Hatch, and for good reason. I went off on Hatch because of comments he made a month or so ago. I’m still not happy about that, but you know what, we are never gonna agree 100% with anyone. His long record of honorable service means something.

Honestly, I would love to see everyone who has served more than two Senate terms sent home, because this isn’t supposed to be a job for life. That said, when you have someone who is up for the fight, being challenged by a pretender, then you stick with the old hand.

As for the Court. Yeah, I think we could see as many as 4. Most definitely 3. Ginsberg has already stated she is only holding on until after the election. That took me by surprise, as I figured she’d want to make sure a liberal was making the appointment to replace her.

Scalia is no spring chicken, neither is Kennedy or Breyer. Ginsberg was born in 1933, Scalia and Kennedy 1936, and Breyer 1938. In the next 4 years, anything can happen.

    Hey Gary,

I’m having second thoughts again about this race. Two of the conservatives in the media I trust most are Levin and Malkin.

Malkin’s track record for standing up for true conservatives and weeding out any RINO’s is pretty good. What do you think of this article? I think she makes a pretty strong case for Liljenquist:

I love Michelle, but she is as wrong as can be on this one. She’s allowing her hatred for Hatch cloud her vision.

As I’ve said, I’m not his biggest fan, and was ready to lead the tar and feather brigade to his doorstep!

That said, two things are in play here. One, remembering Hatch’s record of standing with us more than not, and the fact that Liljenquist is NOT a Conservative. First, he’s backed by Dick Armey’s bogus “Tea Party” outfit, and second, he’s already saying he’s willing to raise taxes. That’s a non-starter.

If there was some super duper Conservative star, like say Ted Cruz, running against Hatch, we’d have a different ball game. But Liljenquist is no Ted Cruz!

Mark Levin made a far better case than Sarah did as to why Hatch deserves another term. Hatch’s seniority and experience will be key when Romney starts trying to appoint Supreme Court justices. Romney reformed the way justices are chosen in Massachusetts, but he still has an iffy record on his actual picks. We need the “Beltway Barnacle” as Michelle calls him, to help guide Romney towards more people like Thomas, Roberts, and Alito.

Liljenquist is already proving he’s a milquetoast, reach across the aisle, appeaser. We don’t need any more of those in Washington.
