The Traxxas Shootout is a race within the race at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend. Teams in both Top Fuel and Funny Car will compete for $100,000 top prize. The Top Fuel shootout will happen on Saturday with the Funny Car shootout going down on Sunday.
The Traxxas Shootout format has 7 drivers scoring a spot in the 8 car fields based on race wins and performance throughout the season, with the final slot filled via a fan vote and a lottery.
There are several drivers in both Top Fuel and Funny Car looking to get in via fan vote. Courtney Force has launched her “I Wanna Race” campaign asking for your vote.
Courtney is part of the Force racing dynasty that includes her dad, John, the 15 time NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car World Champion, and the winningest drag racer in history. Her sister Ashley Force-Hood, the first female to win a national event in Funny Car, and a 3 time Indy Champion. Her brother-in-law Robert Hight, a former Funny Car World Champion. And her sister Brittney, who has raced in both Super Comp and Top Alcohol Dragster [A/Fuel] and is now testing a Top Fuel car for a possible debut in 2013.
Courtney, who is the leading contender for 2012 professional Rookie of the Year, won her first Funny Car event in Seattle 2 weeks ago, joining Erica Enders [Pro Stcok]and Megan Ellingson [Stock] for a historic day in the NHRA. This was the first time 2 female racers had won on the same day in different professional categories. Adding in Ellingson’s sportsman win made the day special indeed.
