When All Else Fails, Democrats & the Media Race-Bait (Updated)

It comes as no surprise that the Democrat Party and their comrades in the mainstream media would pull the race-baiting trick at the last moment during the final stretch of the health care debate. We knew it was coming, it always does.

Congressman John Lewis, Democrat from Georgia, or as CNN describes him “Civil rights icon and veteran Rep.” claimed to be the victim of racist slurs by Tea Party protesters as he entered the capitol on Saturday. This article is one of the most distorted pieces of garbage masquerading as “news” I have ever seen from the infamous McClatchy brigade:

WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted “nigger” Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.

The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus , lawmakers said.

“They were shouting, sort of harassing,” Lewis said. “But, it’s okay, I’ve faced this before. It reminded me of the 60s. It was a lot of downright hate and anger and people being downright mean.”

Lewis said he was leaving the Cannon office building across from the Capitol when protesters shouted “Kill the bill, kill the bill,” Lewis said.

“I said ‘I’m for the bill, I support the bill, I’m voting for the bill’,” Lewis said.

A colleague who was accompanying Lewis said people in the crowd responded by saying “Kill the bill, then the n-word.”

“It surprised me that people are so mean and we can’t engage in a civil dialogue and debate,” Lewis said.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver , D- Mo. , said he was a few yards behind Lewis and distinctly heard “nigger.”

“It was a chorus,” Cleaver said. “In a way, I feel sorry for those people who are doing this nasty stuff – they’re being whipped up. I decided I wouldn’t be angry with any of them.” …

Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Capitol on Saturday as the House Democratic leadership worked to gather enough votes to enact a health care overhaul proposal that has become the centerpiece of President Barack Obama‘s domestic agenda. Most were affiliated with so-called tea party organizations that originally sprang up during last summer’s protests of the health care proposals.

Heated debate has surrounded what role race plays in the motivations of the tea party demonstrators. During protests last summer, demonstrators displayed a poster depicting Obama as an African witch doctor complete with headdress, above the words “OBAMACARE coming to a clinic near you.” Former President Jimmy Carter asserted in September that racism was a major factor behind the hostility that Obama’s proposals had faced.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D- S.C. , said Saturday’s ugliness underscored for him that the health care overhaul isn’t the only motivation for many protesters.

“I heard people saying things today I’ve not heard since March 15th, 1960 , when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus,” Clyburn said. “This is incredible, shocking to me.”

He added, “A lot of us have said for a long time that none of this is about healthcare at all. It’s about extending a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful.”

(Writer’s note: I purposely left off out the Barny Frank element to this blog post because I didn’t have to time nor patience to research it.)

A lot of us have said for a long time that none of this is about healthcare at all.” No kidding, Mr. Clyburn! We fully understand that this isn’t about health at all. It is about power, control, and the system of government in which this once fine nation will operate in the future.

I really like how the author cites Jimmy Carter’s widely denounced characterization of the Tea Party as evidence to back up the assertion that any disagreement with this socialist leaning president is akin to racism.

Here is actual footage of what happened… Judge for yourself if these congressmen lied or not.

Meanwhile, if you poke around all of the other suspiciously timed, race related stories, you may run into an article about the anti-war protest held in San Francisco on Saturday. According to the media, a “peaceful” group of “thousands” took to the streets to exercise their free speech rights and demonstrate against the war in Iraq. Here’s what the ‘non-hateful’ protesters looked like at their gathering.

Vice President Dick Cheney in Washington, on

Dick Cheney had no comment about this stunning display of hatred. Of course, nobody called the former Vice President, who is currently not involved in any of the nation’s conflicts by the way, either.

Saturday’s protests were historical moments in hypocrisy and activism for the leftist media. It also marked a new low in acts of desperation from members of congress, lashing out at the citizens of this nation. Given the fact that none of the claims of racist slurs coming from the protesters in DC have been substantiated by any credible or objective source, this behavior by elected officials is beyond disgraceful.

The left in this country cannot win the debate, they have lost public opinion, so their last desperate move is to demonize and marginalize their deemed foe. The patriots that flocked to DC to protest this overbearing governmental power grab are treated as some sort of organized hate group. Race issues were never a part of the health care debate and it sure as hell isn’t a part of the Tea Party movement. This is just the way the left operates. It would be laughable if only the press didn’t play along and sell these deceptions to the rest of the country as legitimate news. It’s a good thing that the majority of Americans can see the media for what it is now. Nobody forgets the salesman that sold them a lemon.

Update: Big Government posted more video of the Congressional Black Caucus leaving the Capitol.

Here’s Jim Hoft’s take on Saturday’s events.
