The Real Story: Chris McDaniel’s Historic US Senate Campaign

Chris McDaniel deserves a clean victory. There should be no write-in, no other election, or no third party solution.. McDaniel won this race fair and square. and should be the nominee. Let’s pray he prevails. He has the evidence. He has the fight in him. And he has the Truth on his side. What more can we ask? There is no gray area here. It’s black and white. I don’t think in this case Cochran has a LEG to stand on. What the GOPe did was not only unfair it was illegal. Cochran and the GOPe have exposed themselves. They will have to answer for their deeds: heads will have to roll. and arrests made if need be. This is one victory they will have no moral or political authority over. They’ve cheated before but finally got caught. It’s illegality clear as day. The race has even transcended even politics. It has an inspiring message that you never surrender if you believe that what you are doing is right.

In his most recent column on the establishment website Y’all Politics, Frank Corder gives his assessment of the current state of politics in Mississippi and his predictions for the general election this November and state races in 2015.

But what caught my attention, aside from his flawed analysis, has been his consistent downplaying of Senator Chris McDaniel’s historic effort to replace Thad Cochran in the United States Senate. This has been the theme, not only from Corder and the hacks at Y’all Politics, but also from the media establishment throughout the state.

It’s Official! Chris McDaniel to File Formal Legal Challenge.

By Isabel Matos

Updated 8:40 p.m. Digital Copy of Challenge Filed

Chris McDaniel’s campaign has announced it is challenging the results of the June 24th runoff election because of evidence that McDaniel should have won. The formal challenge will be sent to the Mississippi Republican Party Executive Committee Monday.

In the afternoon press conference, Chris McDaniel said he sees this as an opportunity for the party to take the lead on honest, good transparent elections. He says he believes the Executive Committee will grant them a hearing. His attorney went on to say they hope that will happen 8 days from now.

You’ll remember, the GOP Executive Committee had already unanimously voted to certify the election results. Since the runoff, McDaniel volunteers have spent days pouring through poll books and ballot materials. One concern has been crossover votes.

McDaniels campaign says it has found approximately 3,500 crossover votes and that “mathematics” show McDaniel should have won Republican nomination. Certified results showed incumbent U.S. Senator Thad Cochran with a 7,667 vote margin of victory.State election law prohibits anyone from voting in a party’s primary and the other party’s runoff. McDaniel’s campaign claims that Democrats helped Cochran win the election.

Earlier Monday, Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Joe Nosef said he’s tried to remain neutral throughout the whole process. He says he still can’t say a whole lot about the challenge because he would serve in a judge role for the GOP executive committee.

There are limited rules on how the Executive Committee will handle challenges. The party chairman says there’s not really a precedent for this.

UPDATED 3:28 by Isabel: Attorney Mitch Tyner said that 71 percent of those who voted for Cochran in the run off admitted they would not vote for him in the election. He said that if the courts accept their information McDaniel won by 25,000 votes. They want an Open hearing where Republicans – all Republicans – can be present to ensure fairness.  As we await the official clip you may refer to the last press conference with information on what they had found. First photo courtesy of Maria Mchnis Mooney.  Other two by Isabel Matos.
