Dear Tapp TV: How about a Little Courtesy or Smile for Your Subscribers?

Tapp Brothers

Jeff Gaspin and Jon Klein

By Isabel Matos

Congratulations to Jeff Gaspin and Jon Klein for their entrepreneurial achievements over the years and for being pioneers in Subscription Television:

Jeff Gaspin and Jon Klein first met 20 years ago while pioneering reality television at NBC and CBS, respectively. They were ahead of the curve then, and they’ve stayed there – helping to usher in the era of online video in the 2000’s, and now turning their sights to media’s next frontier: subscription television.

As the readers and viewers may know, I expressed my interest in promoting the Sarah Palin Channel in Spanish here and here. I did not just do SPC clips, however. I did other news items which took an eternity to create, translate, edit and publish. I stated clearly it was all exploratory in nature. This allowed for a margin of error -not in the translations- but the actual publication themselves. I had a concern from the start about copyright.  No one could guarantee one way or another if what I was doing would be okay. It was 50-50, in fact, so I went ahead and took a chance. Every time I posted a clip, people asked about the Sarah Palin Channel. I know I motivated at least a handful to sign up. But Tapp does not seem to want to generate more excitement. Celebrity is a magic bullet that will turn a profit for them without our help. Why get involved? It’s oh so time-consuming.

Tapp must not value my meager contributions for its promotional success either. After waiting one entire month for a reply (see the email I sent to Joanne at Tapp TV on September 29th at the bottom of this page), I decided to post the following on my timeline for the enthusiasts who supported my effort and idea:

Here’s a disappointing update on the Spanish clips. The video that received 713 views got pulled for copyright violation. I wrote the company Tapp who is not so nice customer service-wise and asked to make one exception since it was in part to help promote Sarah’s message and the channel. They did not even have the courtesy to reply, to which I say pthhh. Is a reply too much to ask for a year subscriber? It is a blessing in disguise because each one of those videos in Spanish were absolutely time consuming. 8 hours per minute is what I started out with since I was new to it and trimmed it down to 4 for the last ones. Not bad. I don’t care about the copyright strike either. I took a chance doing something awesome which I loved doing and hit a bump on the road. No big deal. I still know Spanish and I can still translate it’s just not feasible to come up with the script, the video, the translation and the editing.

Spanish translations can be done on just about anything. The possibilities are limitless. There are politicians and personalities in politics who would appreciate my services for free or occasional pay, but it will not be done for the most needed reasons.. to help Sarah Palin get her message out to voters who happen to be bilingual and who have been ignored by the leaders in the party because their message is stale, flat and wrong.  A warning on your part would have sufficed.  By the way, if you use my idea in the future, does that mean that I should be notified?

I’m not the only one disappointed in Tapp’s bad customer service by the way. I would not have taken the trouble to write the article if I was. It is known by now.

Dear Joanne,
Hello. My name is Isabel. I am a supporter of Governor Sarah Palin. I was inspired shortly after Sarah Palin Channel was launched, to do a voice-over of a clip that was pulled from YouTube today. I agreed to what was explained but just wanted to email you directly first to communicate why the video, titled: Sarah Palin’s Conservative Response to Elizabeth Warren’s Progressive Tenets, was done.
The video showcases the Governor’s debating skills. She lays out our conservative beliefs/tenets in a very attractive way. Bilingual voters who understand English but prefer watching and/or reading in Spanish make up a huge portion of the voting population. Millions are denied good information every day as filter/s of the Spanish-speaking media (written and on television) are just as bad if not worse than our liberal mainstream media. We know the story: they either do not report what is going on in American politics, are disparaging or dismissive of the conservative movement like the Tea Party or its leaders like Sarah Palin, who is still mocked with the tired old jokes. It’s there. Again, many are deprived of good information because of the language barrier and the filters described above.
As for the dubbing-it is all mine. I am asking permission for that particular video to stay up.  It was done in a promotional spirit both for her channel and as part of an outreach to those voters who happen to be legal immigrants who are bilingual but enjoy their news in Spanish. Again, the Spanish-speaking media does not do its job. This was a quality translation that did not cost anyone to have it done (which is fine). I will in the future not use SPC material if there is no other way to work this out -you have my word- but I am making a request for this particular video which has already been done and which took a lot of work to do, to be an exception, just in this case.
None of us get paid to do all that we do. We are tirelessly doing the best we can to get the message out and time is running out. My colleagues considered this would be acceptable (I did ask before going on my own..) as it was helpful in the promotion of the channel.
It would be helpful there was a validation of the translation work done, but I am aware now of the infringement issue. I wish this could be used to spread and promote SPC in a special way. If there is anything we can do to keep that video up I would appreciate it much.
Thank you.
Isabel Matos

Sarah Palin’s Conservative Response to Elizabeth Warren on SPC (In Spanish)

By Isabel Matos

UPDATE: I am pleased to announce the clip above has received 710 views as of today, 9/29/2014. I’m also happy to add Sarah Palin’s Conservative Tenets (In English) taken from Palin4President 2016 Blogspot, followed by a commentary.

  • “We believe that Washington, D.C. needs to take less of our money. It needs more scrutiny, fewer bureaucrats, and it needs a reminder of the principles laid down in the Constitution that our leaders swear to defend. Furthermore, we believe crony capitalism is infecting both sides of the aisle in D.C. We’re working really hard to root it out of our party.”
  • “We believe in science and God’s magnificent creation overflowing with natural resources. That means we have a responsibility to honor Him by protecting the earth as we develop our resources in an environmentally sound way for mankind’s use.”
  • “We believe the Internet shouldn’t be censored by the world’s tyrants. That means President Obama should reverse his disastrous decision to hand over control of Internet domain names to the U.N., where it will come under the thumb of authoritarian regimes like Russia and China.”
  • “We believe in lifting Americans out of poverty and into sustainable jobs. That means government needs to butt out of employer-employee pay issues. And quit over-regulating business and increasing taxes. It drives up operating costs –that’s what affects wages. We believe in America where minimum-wage jobs are not lifetime gigs. They are stepping stones to a good job with sustainable wages. It teaches work ethic. We believe in helping Americans climb the economic ladder, not get stuck on the first rung. A strong economy with good-paying jobs comes from free enterprise, not from a top-down, bloated, big-government, command-and-control economy.”
  • “We believe that students learn to not make decisions that result in a lot of debt. And we believe that schools need to be more accountable for the insane increase in tuition… and their insane curriculum–many of ’em. It’s no accident, Elizabeth, that the rise in tuition corresponds with the rise in government intervention. More government isn’t the answer.”
  • “We believe a pension is a promise. It must be honored. We do that by using common sense and prioritizing budgets that once and for all will end waste and fraud and the crony capitalism and the stupid political decisions that are bankrupting our nation. We believe that in order to keep faith with future generations and fulfill our current commitments to our seniors, well, we must enact sensible entitlement reform.”
  • “We believe in equal pay for equal work. And President Barack Obama should abandon his hypocritical practice of paying women less than men in his campaigns, in his administration, and in the White House.”
  • We believe that all men and women are created equal. They claim that we are not tolerant? Well, we believe that tolerance goes both ways. That means respecting people’s right to disagree with you, instead of trying to intimidate or silence us. We believe the answer to free speech that you find offensive is more free speech, not less.”
  • “We believe that legal immigration helped make this country strong and vibrant. And that means welcoming law-abiding, hard-working immigrants who wish to come here legally and pledge their allegiance to the United States of America. Furthermore, we believe, as none other than Cesar Chavez believed, that illegal immigration hurts the country. It unfairly hurts working-class Americans of all races, all backgrounds who are seeking good-paying jobs, security for their families.”
  • “We believe women have a right to their bodies, just as babies have a right to their living, breathing bodies nestled in a mother’s womb. And anyone who wants contraception, more power to you. Continue to freely buy any kind you want, no one is stopping you. We’ll fight for the right of private businesses, including Hobby Lobby, to work with you to figure out health-care coverage themselves in any way the owners of these businesses (that they built themselves) want to, knowing that government intervention just always screws everything up. We believe that religious liberty is enshrined in our Constitution, remember?  The government has no right to coerce people to violate their religious beliefs. And if they try to take any of our Constitutional rights away, we will fight for them.
  • “We conservatives believe, as Ronald Reagan said, that you can’t be for big taxes, big government, big bureaucracy and still be for the little guy,” “We stand with the little guy, who is being bullied and beaten down by the progressive left’s failed policies. We stand for free men and free markets–the twin ideals that made this nation strong, peaceful, and prosperous. We say, God Bless America.”

Patriotic Journal (Entry updated 9/29/2014)

As I posted the link above in different places today, people asked for the English translation! In case you haven’t heard, Sarah Palin launched her own T.V. Channel on the Internet: SarahPalinChannel.com.  I;ve been testing reaction to this effort, and it has been overwhelmingly positive.  I am liking what I’m doing for a change as the GOPe can get depressing, but then I thought: what better way to get back at the GOPe than to start appealing to Hispanics who really believe in the Constitution and the principles upon which this country was founded, Hispanics like Sarah Palin’s endorsee Gabriela Saucedo?!

In all, doing these tapes has been inspired by the attractive way Sarah delivers her politics. My first Hispanic viewer said she loved it, and that she finally understood what the fuss over Sarah Palin has been.  That means that Sarah has a great delivery, a great message and she is the best messenger for it.

The delivery in Spanish matters.  No one can speak for her as well as she can speak for herself, she just needed the voice over to connect with Spanish speakers in a way to me she knows best: one-on-one. People need to connect with a person, not just words on a page and that is what made me start this now and not before. It’s becoming a fun hobby.  Please feel free to give me feedback but remember this is for fun at this moment but I happen to think it’s a good idea. Here’s an update on clips published in Spanish, from most to least viewed:

Sarah Palin: From Badge of Military Merit to Purple Heart (In Spanish)

Purple Heart

By Isabel Matos

This was an incredible clip by Sarah Palin, and it was awesome to do because it was specially addressed to legal immigrants who make America an exceptional nation. She tells the story of one soldier, among hundreds of thousands, who gave his full and last measure of devotion for his adopted country. It is a real tribute to those who sacrifice for this country who happen to be from different origins.  Thank you, Sarah.

Sarah en Domingo~Sundays with Sarah

ice bucket challenge

By Isabel Matos

Welcome to a new segment I am looking to work on: Sundays with Sarah (in Spanish).  As you may know, I have been experimenting with doing voice-overs in Spanish of six clips so far 1 2 3 4 5 6 that Sarah Palin has been presenting on her new Digital-Television Channel online:

SarahPalinChannel.com

Let’s consider this the start of a journey whose destination is unknown. Let’s see if along the way we can confirm who is or isn’t reporting news fairly. Let’s find written publications and other media outlets and rebut their misleading information with facts in their language. Let’s dispel the tired myths that so many in this community have tirelessly and aggressively debunked over the years since 2008 and expose the places where they pervade. It’s a tall order and I am a dreamer, but…

Let’s see if in this journey we can find legal citizens who already know English but who would connect with Sarah’s message in Spanish because it is the language spoken at home and the culture they identify with first.

Let’s see if we can find bilingual citizens who know there is a status quo they are unhappy with. I do not have them at my disposal, but wouldn’t it be great to have statistics on how many Republicans who watch Spanish television (not radio) lean Republican?  The filter of Spanish speaking media outlets is just as if not more candy-coated and liberal activist than that of the Mainstream Media. It has gone unchallenged.

In this expedition, let’s see if we can lend support or collaborate with the handful of Spanish radio programs that get it (the establishment problem). But how? We are not networking on a daily basis. Let’s see if we can raise  awareness of it and remind folks that the person who ran as Vice President in 2008 put that topic on the map before anyone else did. Let’s inform voters that she is being ignored and/or misrepresented to millions of viewers every day that it is unfair.  This is a massive pursuit.

Let’s do more homework from now on. I hardly watch television but when I do, it’s not in Spanish. Most of the news which is supposed to be political in Spanish intrigues me but it is mostly on Latin America. Each journalist has his or her own niche. When it does cover American politics, it is not what we would like to see. Just like in American news.

It would be interesting to jot down how many times (if) any of Obama’s scandals get mentioned in one week, or whether anything Sarah Palin does that is newsworthy is reported.  When Rino consultants we have mentioned here say she does not appeal to Hispanics, they are in part telling a truth. She has not been pandering like they have, so her message has either been omitted or dismissed altogether. Let’s change that soon.

There are many Hispanic voters who liked Sarah in 2008. They just can’t “put their finger on” why they don’t like her now. They repeat the tired memes we’ve heard so many times about her and they do not like Obama, yet they voted for him in 2012.  Makes you scratch your head.

Sarah Palin delivers a message in such an effective way that she could easily reach many of them again, even millions.  Let’s see if and when her message is delivered in Spanish, 100% of the content would be grasped as opposed to just 1/2 or 1/3 where important content might get lost.

Many bilinguals who speak Spanish at home are legal immigrants and are Ronald Reagan Republicans but watch Spanish news because it is their maternal culture.  It is safe to say they don’t know what is happening inside our party. It is also safe to say that many have been ignored by the Bush’s Progressive Republican Machine. That GOPe factory has cloned more than one community leader who has regurgitated Jeb Bush’s Immigration Reform talking points on more than one occasion, each one bolder in their attempt to push “DOA-mnesty” down our throats. It is only conjecture, but I am sure each one has something to gain from this as promised by the leaders they dare not challenge. In their efforts to appeal to illegals, the party has failed to convey 1. Ronald Reagan’s message of Republican Conservatism and 2. America’s Exceptionalism based on legal, not illegal immigration which are elusively committed to.

It is time to push back and say No Mas (like Sarah did when calling for Obama’s impeachment): No Mas to the GOPe’s abuse of power and corruption.  No Mas to the liberal activist Spanish media lies. No Mas to rewarding illegality by our president and our Republican fools.

Back to the Sarah Palin segment each Sunday (as testing)… I have made six clips in Spanish already 1 2 3 4 5 6 . The response has been overwhelmingly positive: It should be done! The Elizabeth Warren clip has received over 475 views which I’m happy with, but contrast that number to the tens of thousands of views the negative clips got below.

It is no secret that Conservatives still don’t have the edge on fast and vast communication. For whatever reason, our message does not get out more forcefully. The propaganda does. We are doing better, but if you check, most views on clips about Sarah seem to come from the haters.

Here’s a great example. The Fast Food comment was one of her greatest moments in the Elizabeth Warren clip where she referred to the liberal hypocrisy of fighting for the little guy working at Fast Food places for owners they consider evil and in an industry where the food is not vegan:

Lanzamiento de Sarah Palin Channel

sarah iowa rogue

By Isabel Matos

I was intrigued by some of the international coverage of the launching of the Sarah Palin Channel last Monday for two reasons:

1.  The Spanish speaking media tends to be left leaning and is a huge audience in this country. There were references made to Tina Fey impersonations and the fact that users (snidely mentioned) could enjoy her “patriotism” for just $9.95 a month in the newspaper clip I read. They also included a reference that Obama is her favorite target which I kept. I did not write the script. I just tweaked parts of an article clip from Agence France Presse and La Estrella de Panama online.

2.  Sarah Palin has been criticized by some Rino advocates and cheerleaders as not appealing to Hispanics. That is a myth that is being created to keep this demographic away from her, but the impact of the media in that respect is undeniable.

I just loved doing this. I hope you enjoy it and I hope people realize Sarah Palin does appeal to Hispanics but the media has to help.  I have no intentions of making this my sole purpose from now on, but things are so organic in politics, especially in this movement sometimes, that one never knows what roads we are led to follow if needed. I will keep an eye on Spanish coverage from time to time.

Please enjoy the clip, above all.  That was the original intention.  Thank you.
